In the 1970’s Sheila joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, earning the honor of being the only Black woman in her graduating class. She eventually left the force after giving birth to her daughter, but continued a career in Social Enterprising capacities including Voting Poll and Community Election Work in San Bernardino County.
Sheila's social work continued as a Los Angeles group home facilitator & mentor, making a direct and indelible impact on the lives of several young women who were placed in her care. She continued her social outreach later in life by assisting numerous families with children on the autism spectrum.
Sheila took pride in the fact that she taught generations of relatives & extended family how to drive an automobile. Her hands-on driving lessons imparted road safety & defensive driving techniques to total of 17 adolescent drivers over her lifetime.
Was purple. And yes, she was a huge Prince fan as well! She and her cousin/Godson Kenny Johnson Jr. attended one of Prince's final LA shows at the Inglewood Forum. Check out Kenny Johnson Jr's heartfelt tribute tab for more details!
A 70 degree day at the beach was Sheila's ideal temperature and relaxation getaway. She thoroughly enjoyed Southern California's spring and summer weather seasons and noted that she always preferred living and socializing "near the water".
Sheila was captivated by British Royal Family and kept tabs on them through the BBC News channel and a handful of other British media outlets whenever possible.
Enough said! Sheila loved the show Jeopardy and it's longtime host Alex Trebec. She took it pretty hard when Alex Trebec passed away in 2020.
Sheila enjoyed watching the Sherlock Holmes TV Series a child. As an adult she enjoyed watching Matlock, partially because the character Matlock reminded her so much of her father Hilson!
Sheila never missed an episode of CBS Sunday Morning.... And her daughter Libra would tease her about the sound of the trumpets for the show's opener every Sunday morning!
